Speedy Gonzales

Speedy Gonzales (1962)
Pat Boone

SPOKEN: It was a moonlit night in old Mexico. I walked alone between some old adobe haciendas. Suddenly, I heard the plaintive cry of a young Mexican girl.

You better come home, Speedy Gonzales
Away from tannery row
Stop alla your a-drinkin'
With that floozie named Flo
Come on home to your adobe
And slap some mud on the wall
The roof is leakin' like a strainer
There's loadsa roaches in the hall

Speedy Gonzales, why dontcha come home?
Speedy Gonzales, how come ya leave me all alone?

SPOKEN in a male Mexican accent: "Hey, Rosita-I hafta go shopping downtown for my mudder-she needs some tortillas and chili peppers."

Your doggy's gonna have a puppy
And we're runnin' outta coke
No enchiladas in the icebox
And the television's broke
I saw some lipstick on your sweatshirt
I smelled some perfume in your ear
Well if you're gonna keep on messin'
Don't bring your business back a-here

Mmm, Speedy Gonzales, why dontcha come home?
Speedy Gonzales, how come ya leave me all alone?

SPOKEN in a male Mexican accent: "Hey, Rosita-come queek-down at the cantina, they giving green stamps with tequila!!"

Speedy Gonzalez (2006)
Kumbia All-Starz

"Hey Rosita come to my house a comer frijoles y tortillas con Chile"

Lalalalalalaa
Lalalalalalaa

Ella corrió a la ventana
Y entonces lo consoló
Le dijo que lo adoraba
Y Speedy se desmayó.

Hasta que lo despertaron
Y le pudieron decir
Si con Rosita se casaba
Corriendo el se fue de aquí.

Speedy Gonzales, al rancho llegó
Speedy Gonzales, estas palabras mencionó
"Hey Rosita come to my house a comer frijoles y tortillas con Chile"

Lalalalalalaa
Lalalalalalaa

It turns out the Kumbia All-Starz's version is itself a cover of an early 1960s remake by Manolo Muñoz, an early "roc-n-rol en español" singer from Mexico (I think Boone came first, but maybe he just "translated" Muñoz's version for an American audience). Here's the Youtube copy of his TV performance on what appears to be the Mexican equivalent of the Ed Sullivan show:

Translation:

Once upon a time in a little village
there lived a little mouse who was very fast and very much in love
named Speedy González
This is his story about what happened to him
when his sweetheart Rosita left him
and it goes more or less like this

Here comes Speedy González
like a little tornado
He's had too much to drink
since Rosita left him

He never feared anything
but this time he cried
She's the one he desires,
the owner of his heart

Speedy González, arrived at the ranch
Speedy González, these words he spoke
"Hey Rosita, come to my house [to eat beans and tortillas with chile]!"

LALALALALALALALALA

She ran to the window
and comforted him
She told him that she loved him
and Speedy fainted dead away

Until they revived him
and then they could ask
wouldn't he marry Rosita
he couldn't get out of there too fast

Speedy González, arrived at the ranch
Speedy González, these words he spoke
"Hey Rosita, down at the cantina they're giving drinks and sweet tequila!"
