Beautiful > Poetry > Intro

The Beautiful in poetry shares the qualities of smoothness (of meter and diction), rhythmic undulation (an effect that could be achieved by varying line lengths or by rhythmically regular lines), grace, artfulness, and pleasantness mentioned above. The effect of wavy or undulating lines could be imitated with rhythmic or metrical effects; that of careful shaping and ordering could be seen in both meter and diction, or in the choice of lively figures of speech; and the choice of topics in poetry aspiring to the Beautiful could be ennobling without being terrifying. In fact, landscape poems are often examples of the Beautiful in poetry.
