Launches 316K Women’s Studies Variant
For the first time a course on women writers can now fulfill UT’s
literary “masterworks” requirement. In fall 2004 Professor
Lisa Moore taught the pilot course for a Women’s and Gender
Studies variant of E316K, a course that is required for most sophomores.

Kristen Hogan: Book Woman
Austin is home to one of only 30 feminist bookstores left in the
U.S. BookWoman has served as a purveyor and supporter of women's
literature for 30 years and is much beloved by Austin's feminist
community, yet it constantly struggles to survive in an economy
that squeezes out independent book sellers. |

Kristen Hogan

| Kristen Hogan, a fifth-year Ph.D. candidate,
believes that the survival of feminist spaces like BookWoman is
crucial to the quality and diversity of women's literature. Her
dissertation project traces the history of the feminist bookstore.

The WGL Interest Group
supports the study of women, gender, and literature at UT. The group
brings together faculty and graduate students interested in feminist
and queer studies across a wide range of literary and interdisciplinary
interests. Each year the group sponsors events to enhance scholarship,
pedagogy, and professional development in WGL. We encourage participation
from all interested graduate students and faculty, regardless of
their official concentration or affiliation.
